National Committee for Radio Science

 

2007 WORK PLAN

1.      Aims of this National Committee.

The National Committee for Radio Science (NCRS) is a committee of the Australian Academy of Science.  The aims of the Committee are to:

§         Enhance cross-fertilisation across the multi-disciplinary subject of radio science;

§         Propose and encourage activities in Australia, either jointly with other bodies or separately;

§         Liaise with URSI, the International Union of Radio Science, and other appropriate national and international bodies and societies;

§         Ensure the maximum participation by Australian scientists in relevant activities of URSI and keep URSI informed at appropriate times of Australian opinions and plans.

§         Develop the ability and recognition to enable it to act as a peak body for Australian Radio Science

 

2.      Strategies to enable these aims to be achieved.

§          Run the biennial WARS Conferences (National role).

§         Support URSI by managing the Australian delegation and input (International role)

§         Maintain and enhance the NCRS website and e-mail list as effective vehicles for communication with the Australian radio science community.

§         Develop stronger links to other organisations in Australia with radio science interests.

§         Develop greater visibility and better communication throughout the Australian Radio Science community.

 

3.      Plan of work/activities in 2007 which will achieve the aims:

National

§         Develop the NCRS web site (www.ncrs.org.au), and publish a hardcopy information leaflet, to facilitate greater visibility to the broader radio science community.

§         Update and extend the web-based directory of Australian radio science, and develop a greater level of communication within that community. 

§         Plan for the WARS Conference in 2007-8, with published proceedings on the web.

§         The next meeting of the NCRS will take place in Canberra in November 2007, and funding will be requested from the Academy for travel expenses for this meeting.

International Scientific Union

§         Provide the URSI Radio Science Bulletin with brief summaries of the NCRS activities.

§         Encourage Australian scientists to publish articles in the Radio Science Bulletin

§         Encourage participation in URSI activities by other countries in the local region (S. E. Asia);

        encourage membership of URSI,

§         Continue to reinforce contacts between National Commission delegates and the URSI Commissions.

§         Propose that URSI should join CODATA

§         No funding for international activities will be requested in 2007.
